New Hunting Area

We bought this house a couple of years ago. It was on display at the 1904 St Louis Worlds Fair when a Ky Congressman bought it and moved it here on steamboats and barges. It was rebuilt on this property (5 acres) in 1905. I took the detector out for a few minutes yesterday along the front sidewalk and found a few coins from 1825 to the present. That's a good sign it hasn't been hunted yet! I was looking at a rock under a 250 year old Oak tree in the back yard yesterday after we had a rain. There's a date of 1864 on it that's barely visible. I really hope it's not a grave marker of some kind. Anyway, I'm hoping to get out again today since the ground is soft from the 5" of rain we had overnight and do a little hunting.:happydance01:

Wow! That's a very cool story! We would love to see some photos of the coins you found. I wonder what was on that site before the house was put there in 1905?

With 5 acres to hunt it's hard telling what you'll find. opcorn:

I have ask the previous owners of which there have only been two other families own it, and they cant remember any other structures being on the property other than a servants house out back. One of the members of the original family said people used to gather on the property to drink from a spring that is still here. I'm really hoping to find something cool.

With that nice of a house and the fact that the congressman had money. I would dig every pulltab signal on the property. Who knows you might find a gold coin? I also have something from the 1904 world's fair. Of course my thing isn't as big as yours! :hystericallaugh:

Can anyone tell me if this is a luggage tag. I found it yesterday on the property. I think it reads 1928 on it. I can't make out the snall letters across the top.

I would say it most likely is a luggage tag. The Item-Tribune was a newspaper in New Orleans. Here is the Wikipedia entry that tells its history:

I can't make out the name under the engraved pic, but the top looks almost like it says "The Item - Tribune".

Here is one of several flickers I found here yesterday. It's ironic because my grandfather went to work for this coal mine when he was 14 according to my mother. The second family to own this place owned the coal company. I guess their children played with this company money. I'm hoping to find one that still has the pot metal center so I can tell the denomination of the coin.
