Hello All;

Fairly new to MD'ing, Got me some equipment, now I need to find better places to hunt.

Seems the rules keep changing up here in Sussex County depending on who you ask or talk too.

Hope to find people to learn from and make new friends.

Yep....location, and the time to go slow are your best friends when detecting. What are you swinging? Welcome from the nutmeg state. :groovy:
 
Hey welcome from western MA. Best to find some private property and get permission. That way it's a simple yes or no, not a runaround like you are getting now. Lots of times you get people that just don't want you to detect. It may be legal but they tell you it's not. Read the local laws and go from there. Good luck hunting!!

I prefer the old homesteads myself. The older and more un-inhabited the better lol often have to go to a neighboring property to find owner to ask permission. Often will drive through the country looking for sale signs and then ask realtor permission to hunt...
 
I am a light duty hunter happy with coins and trinkets. Just glade to get out and enjoy the day, while calling it as my doctor prescribes a low impact exercise due to health issues.

I find one of the biggest problems here in Sussex County is all the good properties that attracted me to the northern part of the state so many years ago for outdoor activities have been bought up by the Federal and State governments and turned into wild life management areas.

Now I believe in protecting rare birds and other wildlife habitat including the black bear, But they have gone well beyond doing what is good for wildlife and now seem to deprive every one of access to tax bought lands for outdoor enjoyment. They even employ Federal agents equipped with atv's and planes to enforce these policy's.

That is why I have joined a couple of MD forums to network for more sites, meet new people with the same interests and this month I join a NJ MD club for organized hunts. I'm sure most of you understand todays MD related issues.

Finding a good site to hunt is the dilemna we all face. It takes a good amount of patience and persistence.
