New York State Parks

I was considering detecting in some New York state parks and was reading the application for the permit. I was curious if anyone on this site has ever detected on any of those site locations and have had to give up their finds. It sounds a little extreme to me unless you really came up a with a real historic item (i.e. Paul Revere silverware).

Thanks

Sorry but I should have been more specific. My son lives near Rochester and there were some state parks in that part of the state that I would like to hunt. Last year I learned that you needed a permit so this year I was looking into it but after reading the application, I'm not sure it's worth it if I have to give them everything but the clad.

Thank you.

I would assume most of the permits are the same, they just change the heading for a specific park. Yes, the stipulations are crazy. I have only been to one park beach (my daughter and I have an annual before school starts beach hunt) and have been asked by park management to see my permit, but never asked about our finds.

Thanks again for your reply.

The beach hunt with your daughter sounds like a lot of fun. Doing things with your kids is just a big thrill. Something you'll both remember for a long time.

The permit pretty much makes it clear that you can only keep the clad and everything else gets turned over to them. I just can't imagine finding a seated coin or a large copper and just handing it over. Interesting that you never ran into that. It probably varies with the different park managers. It would be a real bummer to lose some nice finds even if your name is associate with it in a display.

Thanks again.
