Nothing amazing but thrilling to me - silver coin, ring.

I got out for a little swing time tonight. I headed to an oddball spot that I had only hunted a few times before, with really dismall results other than 3 wheat pennies. But those wheats had me wondering, and something in my head made me want to check it out one more time. The Sov was cranky at this spot, breaking on good signals and otherwise not cooperating. But I was nevertheless rewarded with a sweet sterling girl scout ring, and 1953 Rosie, and the most oddly corroded wheat I've seen. I've had such an itch for a silver coin lately that just that plain old Rosie made my night; and the ring is pretty sweet for me as I had found a similar one in the past - also a girl scout ring and also an open silver ring. As always, it was great to get out. I look forward to more hunting at this spot as I only scratched the surface tonight.

This website - http://www.vintagegirlscout.com/jewring.htm - dates the ring from 1962 - 1974. Neat!

Happy hunting!

That's a great hunt. Last time only 3 wheats and this time nice looking silver? Sounds good to me lol I love the Girl scout ring and the link. I found an old one, but I got to dig it up and look to see if they have it listed. A very promising hunt and a good place for future silver too. What's up with that wheat? lol Looks like some disease got it  Crusty wheatitis ;) I don't think you got a date from that one did you? Nice to get out, even if it's just for a couple of hours.

You went detecting and found silver and that is 'really dismal results'? You need to come live my life lol

That ring is very unique and a great find! And that corroded wheat is sad! :shocked04:

No, I meant the first three times I hunted at that spot had dismal results... I scored 85 coins worth $3.47 in three hunts, which included the three wheats.

I actually have a little system in my spreadsheet of finds which gives sites a rating based on what I've found there. This site (before this hunt) had a NEGATIVE rating from my three trips there, because I subtract a certain number of points per visit. After this hunt the rating jumps to 23.4 - much better!

Anyway, I'll certainly head back.

Here's some pics of the other, somewhat similar girl scout ring I found a few years ago at a different spot.

Really nice finds, Z. The ring really is a very cool find. That wheat cent sure took a beating though. I'm sure you will pick up some more good stuff from that site. thumbsup01
