Does anyone have the silver bullet to the problem of obtaining permissions? I recently requested permission from NH Dept Resources & Development who look after the NH forests. I had hoped to start detecting in the forests but got an unequivocal NO!! Any tips or advice from the more experienced detectorists would be very much appreciated. Thanks :detecting:

State Parks, National Parks and National Forests are almost always off limits for metal detecting. Most of them have strict rules against removing anything from the grounds, even rocks or flowers.
My only advice would be to concentrate on getting permission at local city parks, picnic grounds, town commons or other public property.

sometimes you are better off by just going to a public park and looking for a sign that says the rules of the park if it does not say anything about no metal detecting you probably are ok you can also check for local ordinances at last you could ask a local police officer good luck dennis

Depending on the size of the town, a local park district may have their rules posted online. Many also have the rules posted on signs in the parks. If the rules are posted for a city park and they don't mention metal detecting, some people go ahead and detect.
When in doubt, it it always best to ask at the local police station if there are any ordinances against metal detecting at public parks.

When I want to hunt a park, I do what Tony said and go on line. So far everyone I looked up have a web site. What I do is; lets say the name of the town you noticed a park that you want to hunt is named Columbia Mo, I go on google and type in, Columbia MO Parks and Recreation. This almost always pulls up thier web page, then I look for the Rules and Regulation section. If I can not locate that, I look for the CONTACT section, and shoot them an email about detecting. Once I get my OK reply back via e-mail, I print it and laminate it and carry it with me while hunting.
