Headed back up to the 1740 home for the day.still plenty of junk in the yard but managed a few keepers again. a 1864 IH think it's an L cuz the neckline is pointed small flat button,a victorian button,a large cloak or dandy button.a aluminum bottle check token, a CHIEF thing.maybe went on front of a fireman's or policeman's dress hat? and swinging into the matted down flower garden near house got a nice copper reading.out pops a 1780's Connecticut copper. It's so offstruck that the date never made it onto the coin lol
I got 60 within my sights now! |:cheering:

well you could stop detecting for a few weeks so i can catch up on your posts man lol lol
hey the badge looks just like that a badge that pins on a lapel or soft hat and i suspect tha connecticut to be a 1787 draped bust variety so get to work and figure out which one it is out of the 241 types made for that year .

Going through old posts and never saw an attribution for the Connecticut. What makes this piece a lot easier to identify is the fact that it has periods instead of colons in the legends. It appears to be a 1787 M.32.2-X.1. I have 2 pieces with this reverse die, a M.30-X.1 (formerly owned by Dr. Thomas Hall who wrote the original reference on CT's in 1892) and a M.32.7-X.1. I've attached a scan of my X.1 reverses.

There is sometimes confusion on this variety as the famed Stack's sale of the Hessberg collection in 1991 had a misattribution for the M.32.2-X.1 pictured as that lot was really a M.32.1-X.3.

Wow nice stuff, great Connecticut Copper, great Chief badge and from a quick look that 1864 looks like the L variant. Congrats Dave! :congrats:
