Probably my last hunt this year FIRST MERC

Digger Don

New member
I had the day off Wednesday and it was in the high forties so I went back to the farm field where I dug a 1907 Barber dime a couple of weeks ago.
After digging a bunch of iron items, I got my first Merc. A 1919.
I'll be going back in spring and hopefully find a few more "firsts"

Congrats on your first Mercury Dime, Don! :thumbsup02:

It looks like you found some interesting relics too. Is the ring silver? It looks like it.

I also noticed the item that looks like a watch fob. Does it have writing on it? Or is it some kind of clasp?

congrats on the merc Don , yes i agree the ring looks silver in the picture . successful hunt ,:congrats:

Thanks everyone for the comments. Yes, the little ring is silver. I thought the other piece was possibly some kind of a clasp or buckle. It has no writing but does have a small part attached to it , possibly for a belt hole? it appears to have been made out of 16 ga. steel.
By the way, What is a FOB?

A fob is a decorative or advertising device that hangs from a watch chain back when watches were worn in the vest pocket. Here's one from about 1912.

Your piece looks like it may have been attached to leather or heavy canvas cloth. It may have been part of some kind of hook latch type belt.

Thanks, I appreciate the education. I'd say it is much to plain to be a FOB.
I'm going to go with the hook latch type belt Thingamabob
Either way, Better than a pull tab

Congrats on the older merc!!! Looking at the relics you found there that site has a lot of potential. I would be hitting it as soon as possible. It's going to be hard to have to wait that long. Again congrats on the finds. HH
