Saturday's colonial hunt

Went out to a old favorite of mine that had given me my nicest GW a while back. Was determined to see how many non ferrous targets I could find by slowly gridding the iron null. Every single target shown was found with iron - in, under or around it. Some came in nice and strong, but some were just low grunts that I knew were not nails. Managed some nice decorated buttons, a real nice thimble also decorated, an 1864 L Indian Head, and a really beat Drapped Bust copper. I'm happy to report my clad count for the day is $.05 :clapping: Just one Jefferson nickel. This site is a ways from the road, so not a lot of hikers on these trails.I did not get another GW today, but I tried :dontknow: But I did get a lesson on how much is still at these holes and how much must still be under that iron. It was a nice day out and other than getting accousted by a lone crazy bee, I enjoyed the hunt lol

Wow! You really did work that site well. :shocked04: It's amazing how much more stuff can be pulled from those sites. :shocked01: That iron sure can be pesky. >:{ The Indian Head cent looks like it will clean up nicely, and at least the copper has enough detail to make out what it is. :happydance01:

Question... second from bottom row, left hand side... there is a white button that looks modern, just curious what it is and what it is made of?

I'm starting to think of that iron null as a plus lol It is producing tons of stuff and some nice buttons and an occasional coin or two.

About 70 % of them targets are from the lip and out about 15 feet in all four directions. Another 20% is from the road by the hole and the barn? area. The remaining 10% or so was from the lip and immediate area of the older hole down the road. These are the only nulling area I could find lol Didn't wander much, only once to break up the nulling sound. Sometimes it's nice to hear the threshold again

Thanks Angie. I found that button in a hole with something else, although I can't remember which target it was with lol I'm thinking it's glass (probably milk glass?) Them little white buttons can have some age to them. Could be from around the same time period as the Indian.

Thanks Dave. The iron is hiding so much. I think we have no idea on what is left there. I bet it is hiding a majority of the old silver coins we are all trying to find. lol The Large Cent took a lot of coaxing to get that portrait to reappear :bop:

Thanks milco. I'm kinda not really taking the iron out, :embarrassed: just going very slow and getting inbetween it. Don't want to take the fun away from others that like digging them nails lol I am finally getting a handle on the different approaches to finding non ferrous targets within the bed of nails. I'm sure there is tons of good stuff that is under them nails, but that is for a future machine to get to.

I do have a small coil, since that was the way I was brought up thinking from the 70's lol It is a great coil and has a ton of uses. It has found some nice coins for me, but lately I have been using the 11 Pro Coil on the cellar hole lips and surrounding areas. It is a DD coil and even with the long, but narrow footprint, it is incredibly sensitive to non ferrous objects, even in iron. I would have never thought an 11 coil could do that I almost never take it off now lol But when my finds diminish, I will blame that big coil and put the small one on rofl
