Went out for a long hunt this holiday week. Was a real oven, temps peaked to the low 90's and near 100 in some areas. Was nearly way to hot to swing the big coil this week. Thought this heat would never end....boy was I ever wrong. These last couple days its been real wet and in the high 50- low 60s.

Decided to hunt the fairgrounds home to the North Western Michigan fair. Got a real solid nickel signal registering on the ACE about four inches. Fug down fix inches to get this slice of heaven. It was in such good condition, I thought for a moment I had a war nickel. No luck om picking out a date though, had to resource to Coinfacts.com to try to guess a year based on total mintage. From what Ive seen, I would take a creak and say its either a 1864, or 65.

All-n-all picked up 100 coins for a total of $7.47. Grand prize of the day was a no date shield nickel
:peace:

Nice Shield Nickel. They sure do hold up nice there ;) It's gonna have to be a little newer than '64 or '65. First one was in '66 and had rays on it, so yours is anywhere from 1867 - 1883. Nice find. :clapping: And I hear you on the change in weather :clapping: :clapping:

That is quite a haul. Congrats on the nickel thumbsup01 You must have some sweet ground up there -- our soil abuses old nickels and coppers pretty badly.

Very nice nickel!!

I would love to find one like that. I'm having troubles breaking the Buffalo barrier. I've got plenty of those... just can't break into the V's.

Congrats on an awesome find.

I know how you feel. A early 50's nickel has me going. It was just pure luck digging this. Didn't even suspect it.

Very nice find. Like others, I've never found one either. Heck, I'm happy with a V nickel every few months. :dontknow:
Diddo here
I'd love to find a shield nickel someday.....my oldest nickel is a V also
Sweet find PP thumbsup01
