Silver Class Ring, Silver Cross, IH, Merc, Rosie - NO FOOLIN'!

Yesterday I drove about an hour to the southeast and hunted at a couple of new towns. I found a park in the second town that gave up 8 wheat cents, a 1941 Mercury Dime and a 1959 Rosie. In this park I also found the Lord's Prayer pendant pictured below. It is smaller than a standard dog tag, it's about the size of a quarter. It was about 7" deep so it may have a little age to it.

Here are my finds from yesterday, March 31, 2012:

Today I put a lot of miles on my car trying to find a new hot spot. I headed north this time. Again I found a park in a very small town that I had never been to before. I didn't find any old coins in this park, but I did find this 1981 sterling silver class ring attached to a sterling silver cross and another junk ring. Fortunately the girl's name is engraved inside the ring so I have a good chance of returning it to its proper owner with a little detective work.

After not finding much else at this little park I headed to a different town that had a nice old park that was fairly large. I found a 1920 wheat cent and an 1880 Indian Head in short order, but couldn't find another old coin for the next two hours so I called it a day and headed home.

I thought the silver class ring and cross was a neat find and I'm looking forward to trying to find the owner.

Thanks for looking and happy hunting!

Nice finds Tony! Is that your first double .925 find? Is it an Urbana High School ring? Be sure to let us know when you return it. I always love those kinds of feel good stories about our hobby. HH, Dave.

Yes, that was my first double .925 find. The smaller junk ring has the initial K on it, and it was inserted perfectly inside the class ring. At first I thought there was only one ring, but when I got the dirt of of it I could see that there were actually two rings, one inside the other. You can kind of see where the junk ring left a stain inside the class ring.

Three area high schools came to mind: Urbana High School, Unity High School, and Utica High School. No progress yet on finding the owner online, but I've only done some basic searching.

Tony, I am sure that you will be able to locate the owner. Try to get a picture of her smiling face when you return it. As DD says congrats on your first 925x2 day. Looks like you really did some traveling.

:perfect10:! Great finds!! Excellent ring and cross. Maybe she will let you keep the cross? Hope you find the owner! WTG! |:cheering:
