Some of my finds in the US

I posted a few things I found in France recently. Now, these are some of my finds in the US.

This coin is actually the first one I found in the US. (well... except for clad of course !)

It is a 1723 Georges Ist half penny ! That was an absolute great day for me !!!



I then had my first (and only so far...) Large Cent - 1830. It is unfortunately in a really bad shape...



My first (and only !) Seated Dime :



A 3 Cent and a half Reale during a club hunt :



My first IH (I found another one since ) and a gold ring from a NYC Park :



An 1815 button commemorating the battle of Waterloo :



My first (and only !) Barber Half Dollar (My first permission in the US)



My first Barber quarter (I had 2 that day !)



And the total result from that day, including my friends' finds. (All on my first permission in the US !!)

And that is about the best finds I had in the US. (+ silver Washington quarters, Mercury Dimes, Rosies, Wheaties, silver rings etc... and of course... clad, cans, pull tabs, iron nails !!! :lol

At one of my first hunts in the US, I also found this which I think is a coin weight but nobody has ever been able to properly identify it :

you've found some great coins on this side of the pond as well.:clapping: love the Hibernia , seated and barber coins . what does the "coin weight " actually weigh??

Coin weights were used to verify and confirm the value of a coin. You would mostly use them with silver and gold coins to make sure the metal weight was valid and accurate. Indeed, when it comes to silver and gold, only weight would determine the actual value and merchants would not always trust the "face value". Even more if the coin was from another kingdom.

Here is another coin weight I found in France long ago.



It reads "Pois de l'Agnel" which is old French for "Poids de l'Agneau", or "Lamb Weight" in English. The Golden Lamb was the following gold coin :



This gold coin was in use during the time of King Charles VI (1380-1422). Unfortunately... I did not find the coin but only the weight !

Great finds. The trime is on my hit list. You've done very well getting all that silver and some early ones at that. Seems that getting permission is the way to go, usually virgin ground.

Can't wait to see you back from France so we can go back to your permission site. We have two club hunts coming up in the next few weeks. Sorry you're going to miss them, but I'm sure you'll find much older stuff where you are. Also love your avatar. Not many here have found silver that old.

Thanks Don ! As you can imagine, I can't wait to see you back. But I'm not going to lie... I enjoy being in France too ! LOL
We will definitely go back to this permission. As you know, it may even get more interesting towards November this year. Might be tough digging the ground at this time of the year though...

Enjoy the club hunts !! Are those with our club or the CT one? I know of one hunt with the CT club so far.
