Some relics from recent past hunts.

At an 1850's place there was a buckle recovered and some wheats and a few iron pieces. The iron I dug was quite large. There was a cemetery near by. I wonder if the smaller iron links were for reign straps. The larger I just cant figure out why the larger link is intentionally bent. Near the round edge it is a bit thinner. Possibly from the iron being eaten away. I gave myself about an hour time to play with at a park. There is an 1840 house near by it. Back by some trees I found a silver plated spoon. About the time frame as silver plating was introduced. Plating was started in the 19th century. I kinda killed the foil using my thumbnail trying to do a quick clean. It was already a bit toasted anyway. I found it within about 20-25 min. Yes another trip is in order.


Ill also add the pics of the cowboy valley token. It was my detecting buddy who found it but figured for viewing pleasure. Hoping he didn't intentionally leave it off here.

Lol. Kinda, Drew. This week I will budget more time. I just don't know why the house being 1840 sits further from the intersection compared to map and I know it wasn't moved. Congrats on your Real tho.

Interesting finds. Not unusual for the old maps to be a "tad" off.

Yeah, Bell. I concur. Roads were sometimes straightened out just a tad, or connectors added to main roads. The weird thing tho, two towns over from where I am at, those little grey lines that appear on google maps road view gave property lines that look like the jagged road of 1868. Too bad it doesn't work for Stafford. I heard Rochambeu went through there once like he did in Bolton.

I added one pic to show what I mean. They were once grey lines darker than the grey background but I highlighted them with orange lines. Those are the property lines and it matches from 1868. Look how the road used to be....

I like the token as well Jim whats the story about "cowboy valley" anyways ?? any positive age on the silver plated utensil ??

Dan, as far as the silver plated spoon I have no real clue. I only know the house nearby was 1840 and they started electroplating silver in the 19th century. I gave a close up where bowl meets handle but It to mee only looks like part of the design. I couldn't find any maker's marks. It's obvious it's silver on the plating as the black tarnish near where the silver wore away to base metal and eroded from there. From the site age figuring out a more precise age beyond no older than early 1800's .... :dontknow:

The token, I reasearched it as soon as Kev pulled it up. Cowboy valley was an amusement park right here in CT in Killingworth. It was like the wild west. Those who grew up in the 40's and 50's might be able to mention a TV show that maybe sparked the creation of the amusement park. It was only running for 2 years before it closed up.
