I found an old Georgia button yesterday ( post war ). After a good cleaning I tried the elmer's glue sealing tip you shared on a video. Pretty cool that after 3 coats it still doesn't look like it has anything on it. Thanks for the tip my friend!!

I remembered having seen it on one of his videos not too awful long back. Last night I went to watch it again to be sure I did it right and couldn't find it. In short ( and based on my sometimes questionable memory ),, it's watered down elmer's glue in a cup. Dip button in thinned glue,,, wick off excess and let button dry,,, repeat as needed. I can't say how durable or how long it lasts when handled,, but it sure leaves the item in a natural looking state.

Naval Jelly, a toothbrush and just a couple of minutes,, first time using that too.
$7.00 at Lowes. Pretty impressive stuff. Everything I read said not to leave it applied too long though,, and rinse well.
