Historically this place was built in 1876, but old log cabin behind was late 1700's... gone and concreted over to build a garden center... crying01 but there was habitation there before 1876 is what I'm trying to say :)

it is a very interesting item Tana and i can clearly see tha it was gold gilted at one time. on the second picture (the backside) theres is a spot that is unclear to me thats on the left side , you obviously can look at it much closer but to me it almost looks like a small wire hook thats been soldered and had been flattened down could you clean up this area as it looks like a brazed or soldered spot .

Looks like a brooch to me. If I were to take a wild guess, I would say somewheres around the end of the Art Nouveau period (1895-1915 ish). If it is a brooch, any good antiques dealer should tell you a time frame on it, judging by its style. Nice find Tana.

Man, you guys are good! The area you circled Dan- yeah, I think it's from a pin that goes straight across and the other clasp part is totally broken off. Like that for a brooch... But I initially thought it was kinda manly, being so big- like a design a Mason or war medal. It's big for a woman don't you think? Thanks! I'll have to take it to a antiques dealer like you suggested. I have quite a few items I'm curious about.

BTW, I found my first US belt buckle today!!!!

I'll post pics and story tomorrow, I am soooo psyched! But too tired to do now... :sleepy: lol

You are absolutely right!!
Very cool find Tana. Definitely a great piece for your collection. :clapping:

it does look big for a brooch but it is very possible , the composition looks like a copper -alloy with lots of gold gilting under the soil grime . a little CLR would do wonders on it to clean it up good and you'd be amazed at how much color is still on it . i'm so :happydance01: <: happydance02 for you about your first plate and i can't wait to see it .

Cool find Tana. Yes, George and Dan amaze me with their IDing abilities too. Can't wait to see the US buckle...very cool!
