On Thursday Diane and I went to hunt a park, found much clad including a first for me a clad Kennedy Half, after two silver halves, Barber and Walker I finally got a clad half lol! Sunday Doug joined Diane and I to check this park out a bit more, after 45 minutes we thought it was time to move on. Drove out a bit in the country saw a nice old house stopped and did a door knock the owner quickly gave us permission to hunt this 1811 house! Doug went one direction while Diane and I went the other, and as usual Doug made the good choice virtually a few feet from the car he hits an 1849 Large Cent which had two holes in it, I told Doug I thought it was made into a button as the holes are precisely in the right spot for that. I found an old button quite large big as a silver dollar, it had a flower motif engraved on the front looks to be quite old. Doug Circling around the house scored another Large Cent this time an 1849 and about ten feet from that he dug a Two Cent piece followed by a 1913-D Wheatie. I then dug another button which looks as though it may have been silver plated with a glass insert with a star inside it, very unusual looking. Doug then got his second Two Cent piece and a few minutes later I finished up the finds with a very nice 1903 Indian. Could not film while digging as there were quite a few kids around but all is in the wrap up. The owner invited us back anytime as we have much more ground to hunt, there was much iron around and it was odd to dig a target and about three inches down to find an old brick complete! So our hunt totaled eight cents total found but they were a good 8 cents!
I was told the big button dates from the late 1700's can any of you button experts help me out on that?
