the ground has been so hard we have only got out a few times finds were all clad sitting at home bored started to sort out old buff and v nickels found a 1886 v nickel could be the best coin i found this year worth close to a couple hundred if i am right dennis

That is a good one, Dennis! I would love to see a photo of it. As far as V Nickels go, 1885 is the mega key with 1886 running a close second. (Well, not counting the 1913 of course!)

The 1886 guides for $275 in G-4 condition in the latest redbook.

here is a picture of the v nickel dennis

Great dig! :clapping:

As a coin dealer I have flipped a lot of 1886 nickels. In that condition you could sell on eBay with a buy it now price around the $70 mark. There's so many v nickels in rough shape around that unfortunately the ugly and really worn ones don't command even close to the good book values unless they have all the lettering (minus liberty) and attractive surfaces.

I would be thrilled with that find. I've only ever found one coin worth around the value of that nickel. Hopefully I can change that this year though.
