That stretch of unusually warm January weather here in New England created an opportunity for my first hunt of 2016. The very first coin I dug this year was a 1700's King George II Halfpenny. The back is toasted but it is soaking and I will hope to get a date. Also, managed two Colonial dandy buttons (one with shank), a thimble and a musket ball.

hey that thimble looks suspect?? its not silver is it ?? great looking copper 1740 to about 1760 from the looks of the bust type , congrats on both :notworthy:but whats really interesting is the broken buckle its an older type (1600's era) so your spot has some really good possibilities . :shocked03:

Wow....hunting up north?? We got 9in of snow in NE CT
I think I've heard that buckles like that one were to be worn...not horse tack. Super old! Looks like you have a winner of a site there! Congrats!

Thanks Drew. Yeah, I found that stuff last weekend when it was warm and before the snow flew. Too late for that now I guess! We got about 6 or 8 inches up where I am.

Thanks Dan. No, the thimble is not silver. It's ringing up like copper or tin and is looking like it may have had some gilding on it. Very lite and thin....not silver but still glad to have it. Yeah I can tell that buckle is old. I wish it was complete!

Excellent finds, perhaps spanning 200 yrs! Yeah, that buckle is really old and a nice find, as well as the KG. The thimble has some ornate fancy on it. Clean that one up carefully.
