And all the while I thought Angel was a professional Silver coin shooter!! I do hope the economy turns around for all of us though!!
After college I worked at a small research foundation studying lung cancer and cell signaling pathways. After 8 years of that and not wanting to get a Master's or Phd, and still make the same amount of money or less, I decided to try something I really enjoyed. Had the opportunity to work with a top notch carpenter and have been doing carpentry ever since. I am self-employed and lucky to have a spouse who makes the big bucks, otherwise I'm not sure if I could be doing what I'm doing now. I really enjoy the work but sometimes the dirt, the dust, getting paid, no paid vacation, no retirement, the physical toll day in day out, and the anxiety of getting the job done or getting new work makes me wonder how long... Might work with someone else down the road as all the regualtions, workmen's comp, insurances and liabilities don't quite seem worth getting any bigger and having employees.
One of the best things I have found about being a carpenter is that I get to metal detect the yards of some really old fancy places. I wish I had picked up this hobby before last year, really has been the best part of my job lately.
