My wife wants to buy my stepson a metal detector for his birthday. I let him use my compadre and the ext 505. He got bit by the bug.My wife wants to spend around 200.00 to 250.00.I'd like to get him something with a larger coil.I'm thinking tesoro, garret, fisher, .What would be a good one for him in that price range.

how old is your stepson?? the Ace 250 is a great starter machine and easy to use.

I will recommend the Eurotek Pro, I have owned a few nice detectors and still have them, but I love my new Eurotek Pro! $219.00

I started with the Bounty Hunters, and they`re still my favorites.I upgraded to a MPX digital with 10in coil which I paid $300.00.It`s a little complicated for me.I`ll sell it for $200.00.

You might do him a bigger favor and get him a job. Then he could buy his own! don't want to get you in any trouble with the wife, but I'm just saying.

I hear ya man, But like you said. Ya gotta make the old lady happy. At least he don't live with us.:clapping:

whatever you buy make sure its something you will use at some point..........likely it will be back in your possession over time

I would have him dig holes for me for awhile and tell him he earned his keep, then give him the detector. Good practice to teach in my opinion. Safe & HH

Right now I'm thinking of a Fisher F2 for him. I never had a fisher, but i hear the F2 is a great beginners machine. I like a compadre ,but I think a vdi machine would be better for him. He has used my coinmaster. but i understand for the money the fisher is better. I need answers along these line's. Thank's

My first detector was a Whites Coin Master.. I still have it and let my wife use it now when she joins me.. That thing is great for coins. I think I spent about 150 or so on it. They also have the Coin Master Pro for a little bit more. Good luck!

Well the Eurotech pro won out.I liked all the reviews. You get Machine,Cutting tool, head phone's. All for $215.00. That will get him started. Thanks all .

Hope you all like it! Good luck hunting out there, a good hobby can lead to having some drive which can be used in all aspects of life. Who knows, he very well become very good at it and want to upgrade!
