Why Have Things Slowed Down ?

Here I am! lol Just kiddin'...

I've been real busy with my two kids- 3 yr and 5 yr old boys out for summer break >:/ Naaa, they're lots of fun. I just wish they were more into metal detecting! Maybe in a few years

Is it just me or have things really slowed down on this site ? :thinkingabout:

Don't even see some of the regulars posting as much.....

I'm glad you posted this thread :) Let's us in on what's going on in eachother's worlds lately!

I noticed the same thing. Someone mentioned this during the winter, and eveyone agreed it was too cold and rainy to hunt. Now it's summer and eveyone is agreeing that it's too hot to hunt. Possibly, because the weather is so good, eveyone is out hunting, and too tired at the end of the day to post. And then, maybe it is as someone mentioned, just a sign of the natural ebb and flow of the forum.

I lurk and sometimes post on various other MDing boards during the day since my retirement, and I can honestly say that generally most all of the boards are mostly the same,,,slow. I have noticed an increasing trend in thread topics though about more and more hunters being run off and hassled by the cops for hunting, and one veteran hunter has even called it quits and gone fishing, FOR FISH! I am beginning to think that socialism has officially hit the metal detecting hobby. I haven't turned my V3i or the 5900 on in close to two months. It takes all the fun out of the event to keep looking back over the shoulder to see who is coming. I don't totally blame society though. The economy surely has many newbies with shovels and brand new detectors thinking, Just one diamond ring! Gold is at $1500, GIMME A RING! Reminds me of playing the slots, except for the fact that these hungry new hunters don't care about the plugs and such. This might be the beginning of the general end. These MDing boards will be a good thermometer for that answer. Let's home I am simply a pessimist and wrong. martin

I hesitate to post too often , dont think people want to see the usual clad and occasional silver or gold. I go out 3 times a week usually. There's also a lot of emphasis here on old coins. Here in the southwest we dont have much history - hard to find old coins. I do have a lot of gold items this year but not many silver coins.
Still glad to see the old, oldies dug up yet back east/north. steve in so az

Tell me it isn't so Steve lol I hope everyone knows it's not about what you find that constitutes a good hunt. It's if you get out at all, that counts. You will see a lot of old finds because there are a lot of hunters that are in those types of areas. But I love seeing the gold and silver that comes out of the schools, parks and tot lots. Even though I hate finding clad at my locations, I still collect it and want to purchase some nice coin with it  Post them if you have them, I always say :clapping:

Steve , i'm with you on the fact that just getting out is half the fun of detecting but you gotta agree that the older coins are just aesthetically more pleasing to the eyes than clad . not that i wouldn't take ten ,fifteen or twenty dollars in clad everytime i went out or some silver or gold .

Yeah older is better (except in the mirror ), even where you are at. It's always a thrill to see something old in the dirt. I know a lot of west coast guys are always trying to break the 1800's mark. And when they do they go :girlcry: :girlcry: thumbsup01. Here it is that way too, we just try for the 1700's since it is available to find. But there is knowledge in every hunt. I would have never guessed tot lots are such gold producers if it wasn't for forums. I would have always mumbled to myself about the guys looking for memorials in the wood chips lol Little did I know, they were striking gold :shocked04: Even though I hunt colonial coins and relics, I love the sight of a Mercury dime or Buffalo nickle in the dirt. About the only coin I can't tolerate yet are those stinkin' zincolns lol

Tana. In a few years your kids will be old enough for them to decide to hunt with you if you give them two choices; clean the house or swing a coil with mom n the fields. BTW. I took a peek at your 2011 finds list and must say you need to slow down and let some others find some of the good stuff. :envious:

Steve,

Weren't gold coins more prevalent in your area than the east? I seem to remember seeing something that they were more in circulation out there than the east but I could be mistaken. I'm not even sure how gold would sound on the Sovereign so even if there was a chance of some being in the ground, I'm probably walking right over it.

Bob - Yes I believe the gold coins were more prevalent here. All the miners and ranch people dealt in them I know. I sure thought by now I would happen upon one - still waiting, Steve

Lord knows I can give you enough ammo to shoot me down. I've been brushing up on my ExtraTerestrial language myself....just haven't had much time or found any to speak with lately.

Paul: Were those fists of fury intended towards me or Jorge?
