Woman's shoe decoration :huh:

Found this at an old home site. Not sure how old the house is being it has no plaque ,but I think its mid 1800's because its in the federal style with outside dental moldings.
I'm no expert on these things but anyway. Any idea what this is?
It measures roughly 2 1/2 X 2

I sure wish I could see it from my phone, something about pics on this forum. Too large to handle I guess. Time to upgrade lol

Curious to see/find out what it is! I love this section for the mystery...
 
Ok I can see it now- I bet you're right about decorative shoe buckle.

Or maybe a sash buckle/scarf holder thing-a-ma-jiggy?

Or perhaps a small picture fit in there... many that I've found have the folded metal pieces there on the backside, to hold the pic in/back piece.
 
I'm guessing sash buckle too. :dontknow: But I'm not sure on how old. I wouldn't rule out the art nouveau period either. A great find!
