Yangtze Service Medal + Old Nickels

This afternoon I made my way to a local park for a few hours of detecting. I didn't pick up any silver coins, but I did dig up a couple of old nickels, several old wheat cents, a silver ring, and a neat bronze Yangtze Service Medal. It is slightly larger than a half dollar, and thicker and heavier too.

The Yangtze Service Medals were apparently issued between 1926 and 1932. They are serially numbered, and the one I found is numbered 1095. There is some information on the medals here and here.

These few old coins made for a fun afternoon detecting at the park.

I love finding the silver rings. Gold is better of course, but silver is sweet enough. ;)

And here is the clad I dug up today. The large metal cover gave me a bit of a rush for a second when I first saw it pop out of the ground as it had the appearance of a large copper coin while in the soil. :bangahead02:

That ring is sweet, as is the service medal... and that 03 nickel is killer! But no silver coins? I hardly know what to say! And to think I scored a Merc today! Wow, another 300 days like this and I'll catch up with your silver count!

You just made it by with that silver ring  You didn't get silver skunked ;) That medal must have read real high and loud!! Do you remember what it came in on? 06-46 or did it pop up to 01-40? Nice hunt, some good old coins, a silver ring and a huge pocket weight

The medal was about five inches down, right at the edge of some large trees located near the CT river. :)

There will be plenty such days, though I would love to find at least one silver coin on each trip. ;)

Yes, I did. The medal was coming in mostly at 8-48. I kept thinking Two halves?...Jackpot! I'll tell you though, when I first felt the heftiness and then glimpsed that eagle and the words 'United Sates' my pulse quickened.
