A bodkin is traditionally a blunt needle with a large eye for drawing tape or ribbon through a loop or hem .

Willems that one is a very unique one and must of been very special to someone long ago.:perfect10:

Congrats for the finds. Awesome. My wife insists that its not a bodkin. She is the sowing history buff in my household. But she's not sure what it is for sure. LOL Safe & HH

Yes she said that it looked more like a hair pin then a bodkin. You and I are like huh? Good luck and hope you find out for sure.

Willems, Have you had the hallmarks deciphered? It may be one of the earliest known Claddagh items if it dates to 1600's. Check out Wikipedia on claddagh items. Dave.

Claddagh symbols are from the 1600.
The hairpin is also from the 1600.
So this is on off the first indeed.

Great finds Willems . Thanks for posting . Hmmmm.....a Bodkin , it's great to see something I never even knew existed . It probably belonged to royalty being what it is and being silver . I guess the poor folks had to use sticks . Thank Heaven for Q-tips . Awesome coin also .
