Shield Nickel, KG or CT copper?

Hiya, It was a frosty start this morning but warmed up by hunt's end. Went back to the place where I got a pair of coppers this week and dug an 1870 Shield nickel (not half bad looking for those things) and a copper. I don't know what the copper is. It rang up on the low side for a copper. 80/81 out of 100.
Couple nice size musket balls and some other stuff rounded out the hunt. I got the drawer plate and one of the buttons a few days ago at the same site.
Thanks!

Nice stuff Drew, Shield nickels are one of defining targets, the first nickel with that big 5 oozes age! Let us know what that Copper is.

Drew, nice shield and that's an item on my wish list. No idea on that copper. It was a nice day to do some detecting. :congrats:on those keepers

WTG Drew! Was a nice day to be out. Pretty sure that a 1786 CT based on the Obverse, but I could be wrong.

Thanks everyone, thanks for the date Roger!
Hey, I got out for a short one this morning at a different site and nabbed the following...I was home by 8 am  I think it's a 171(?) KG1?

That '57 item I thought looked like a registration tag at first but I think not. All 3 that I found have punched out numbers, not pressed in numbers like they do now on license plates. All the rest are some nice finds. I'm not gonna be much help on wiped coppers. I need a bit of detail to distinquish. The KG has a huge rim on it too.

That was a terrific hunt, Drew! Decent looking Shield Nickel, and 1870 is not the most common date for them.

Nice coppers too, especially that 171? King George I.

Here are some 1957 Connecticut license plate tabs I found on eBay. I'd say we have a match.

Thanks everyone! Tony, The 1957 registration is a key date
Jim, those punched out things are reg tags too?! I found a few of those punched ones...I didnt know what they were...I'll have to upgrade where I keep them...from the non-ferrous cellar pile up to the cool collection box upstairs.
Dave and Dan, you guys have good eyes!!

Very nice finds ! I'd go with a CT copper for the first copper. It seems we can read "AU" like in "AUCTORI" on the obverse. Based on your location, that would also make sense... If don-in-ny stops by, I am pretty sure he will be able to ID that !

Yup. First time I thought the 41 was harmonica reed via suggestion of Lee at time I found it. Once I saw it said 41 I knew what it was. The 54 I ended up throwing away but it was orange. The red is 56 as u see in the other thread. CT doesn't register farm equipment so Def for a car.

I think it may be something like this vermont ryder 13. The NI on the reverse is clear as day, so is the bottom of the shield. The MON in vermont on the obverse is where it should be....and it definitely is facing right. Thanks everyone!

Nice hunt. Those are some nice old coins. I love hitting cellar sites early in the morning cause it's so peaceful and nature is always very active
