I bought my son a detector for Christmas last year. Yesterday, he made his first significant find. He found a late 1800's to early 1900's piece of coal scrip from Monarch Coal & Coke Company in Wilmont, KY. This token is rare as hen's teeth! This was a very small mine when men mined the coal by hand with picks and shovels. Mules hauled the coal to the outside on little carts. The men were paid with company money and spent it at the company store. I have been digging for 22 years and started out digging in coal camps. My son is following in the old man's footsteps. Proud Papa!
