heres a link to a company that makes nice reproductions from actual existing buckles , it might help in narrowing it down Jeff

Hey Del, It was found at an late 1800's stage stop about 6 down. No markings on the back. It was found it the Willamette Valley here in Oregon.

Very cool Jeff thumbsup01 I found something like that a few years ago. Didnt know what it was. Now I have to look where I put it.

It looks like some Civil War era military buckels I have seen, if I remember correctly from a sword belt......try searching those...I'm no expert

Here is a few that I have pictures of. Maybe it will help. The CS ones look to have a rough look to the wreath but the u.s. one looks like yours in my opinion.

CastNavy2.jpgThis the proper tongue for this wreath, there should be the number 33 stamped on the buckle. It is circa 1845-55 Navy Officer pattern, but is most often found in California gold camps. Great find!
