31 Cats Eyes and 1940's Jefferson

Yesterday I went out a bit after work. Stopped by this 1840's house but no one was home. The realtor I personally know as a friend. I worked with him for years at my first job. I saw across the street people were outside at an 1880's house. The guys were very friendly and trying to mention other...

Some relics from recent past hunts.

Dan, as far as the silver plated spoon I have no real clue. I only know the house nearby was 1840 and they started electroplating silver in the 19th century. I gave a close up where bowl meets handle but It to mee only looks like part of the design. I couldn't find any maker's marks. It's...

Some relics from recent past hunts.

Yeah, Bell. I concur. Roads were sometimes straightened out just a tad, or connectors added to main roads. The weird thing tho, two towns over from where I am at, those little grey lines that appear on google maps road view gave property lines that look like the jagged road of 1868. Too bad it...

Some relics from recent past hunts.

At an 1850's place there was a buckle recovered and some wheats and a few iron pieces. The iron I dug was quite large. There was a cemetery near by. I wonder if the smaller iron links were for reign straps. The larger I just cant figure out why the larger link is intentionally bent. Near the...

Posy ring found in Highbridge UK

I can actually post something not about my finds. Not as great as the grenade on beach but an Elizabethan ring that could be 300+ years old. http://www.burnham-on-sea.com/news/2014/metal-dectector-find-16-10-14.php

    Places are never hunted out.

The idea to take a half day crossed my mind but no acknowledgment I muddled through the eight hour day. I tried a bit of door knocking. There were two places in mind, with about another 40 possibilities along the way never researched as well as other fall backs. The first place there were many...

A bit of silver and some "what is it?"

I thought I would add a pic of the ribbon badge after cleaning further. This time I tried vinegar instead of peroxode. I think it cleans some items better and works quicker. Just don't leave items in too long. And I thought I'd add pics of another place. Just hard to believe these came from...

A bit of silver and some "what is it?"

Last week wasn't too good for me. Thursday night I went to a local park. The fields were being used for baseball games but I was trying to check the wooded area for an old structure, or at least the depression where it once stood. That proved to be fruitless. It was a bit overgrown. I even put...

Machine Mods. Upgrades to a machine.

Each machine leaves just that little extra to be desired. Through the late nights detecting and almost not making it out of the woods before I couldn't see any tree or obstacle in front of me gave me a clue what was needed. Always catching the cord on my pinpointer or the arm rest or almost...

Saturday+Wed hunt, strange and not so strange finds.

lol. That's a quarter. So overall the piece is about 8 or 9 inches long. I believe it is a foot for a wood stove. It could be for a tub. If someone needs pics of the actual top I can get some but It looks like this on the top. I was hoping the big C on the front could identify the manufacturer...

Saturday+Wed hunt, strange and not so strange finds.

Saturday I got out to a place where I knew an old mill once stood. It was located out in a forest. I used the map wrong and I started traveling for a bit to the wrong area. Once I realized I was way past the site, I treked back to the right spot. On the path to the wrong way I found a bone on...

    5 person detecting party,dancing,music,light refreshment....ok im kidding.

Sorry you didn't make it Bri. As far as coins we only found clad there. There was a Canadian quarter from 1968 which was 80% silver. Yesterday I got back out with Bamaart to a school. Rather than start a new thread cuz it's not my first silver and Bam was part of the group Tues, I'll add it...

No shovel has stood up yet. Found a possibility for only $5

I carry around my stuff in a backpack 'cuz I don't really want to have a tool belt. Already the pinpointer is restrictive on it's own. My first trip out with Dan I had a folding shovel. The threaded section of the shaft broke, probably from the frozen ground, and it's a special thread so I...

    1794 Liberty Cap 1793 Head

Gaah... I was replying to the other thread when I lost the window. Anyway. As George was saying I believe you have a Sheldon 36 version. I did find pictured of what George was saying with the wavy cap and a version with the straighter cap. In your cleaned up version it seems the top half of the...

Dollar coin and a ridiculous hike for a spoon from cellar hole.

Boy it feels good to leave work early. I don't do it enough. Yesterday I met up with Mike for a hunt. Too bad we didn't know anything about the work they were doing there. It really limited the area we had. We still swung for as long as he could before he had to leave. He got a few wheats and a...

Two finds, two ring bullet and possible button cut in half

Ok Dan, here it is. Added the precision ruler I had to pic and coins as well. Obvi they are not US coins lol. But they are the same size as a US penny. I added the silver coin to show Bri a coin that really looks like it would be a game token.

Two finds, two ring bullet and possible button cut in half

Anyone know the about this style bullet? It's a two ring bullet found on the road near some cellar holes. The caliper I own I cannot find so I tried using a ruler with 64th's. It's just around 0.26-0.27", but that is after cleaning removing some of the oxidization. The bottom is not flat. I'm...

Not sure this weird cast brass piece and iron piece.

Back at the cellar hole Not 10 ft from where I got brass piece an artillery button was dug. Too bad it wasn't me that dug it, hence why I'm not starting a thread about it. First Regiment Artillerists from around 1815. So we know the time period of the place. It was hit hard tho.
