    I'm starting up again in N.C.

    NC is rich in history and a beautiful state , I myself visit the north western (around Jonesville) once or twice a year to spend with family , detect and arrow head hunt . I may even move down there in a couple of years permanently . I wish you the best of luck.

    Cleaning Up the 1700's French Musket

    Dave have you ever use media blasting (sand or soda or other) to remove the heavy rust ? i would steer clear of this method if the item was very thin or delicate iron but i've used it on gun barrels and tools and its a lot quicker , less messy and has similar results ?

    First find ever - need help identifying

    Clean the back as best you can and show us ( i suspect it has a solder or brazed mark where the attachment was) it could be a few things like a cufflink button , tie tack or lapel pin .

    Speechhless about what I found!

    well there were carbines during the Revolutionary war but I believe they were still a bit longer than what you've got , I think its a pistol barrel (unless it was cut to shorten) but most 13 inch barrels are uncommon . the one i found a few years ago was in the neighborhood of 11 to 13 inches...
