A Seated In The Gloaming!

A friend invited us to a hunt at an old house. He is just getting started in detecting and he bought the Ace 250 I had for sale. This would be a one time shot since the property is going up for auction this Friday. He gave me the address and I looked it up on the old map and determined that there was an old house on it back in the mid 1800’s. We had to wait until he got off work at 5:30 and the long drive made it about 6:30 before we were able to hunt. First signal was a solid Indian signal and that is what it was a crusty 1883. Diane dug a wheat and then later a 1941 King George Canadian Cent. She also got a piece from a necklace or bracelet that is not marked but I am confident it is gold. Danny was busy digging up clad. My next signal was a 12-45 – 12-46 and it sounded sweet. Under a large tree I retrieved my target beneath a fair size root and I could tell it was silver, quite crusty but silver nevertheless. It was getting darker but I could see part of the reverse and I saw an Eagle…not the Barber Eagle but the Seated Eagle! Barely thru the crust I could see the 1853 peeking out! A first for me! Finished with a few more wheat’s then the dark and the mosquitoes decided it was time for us to go.

Tony, that sure is a beautiful 1853 seated quarter with arrows and rays! :wow:

How fortunate that you were able to recover that wonderful coin before the property sold. And this time you were able to get the top prize instead of Diane. ;) lol

Congrats on your first seated quarter! That is a banner find for sure! |)

:perfect10:

Good thing you guys/gals didn't pass up on that opportunity. thumbsup01

Great hunt, nice finds, and a beautiful :smitten: seated.

Great looking Seated. :beerbuddy: Congrats on your first seated quarter, first silver with the CTX and finally beating Diane :shocked04: Just kidding about the last one ;) That Indian isn't too shabby either. It looks like it is in xf condition too. Plus it has the nice green patina on it. Great hunt!!

A very special find! On most everyone's list. I have a sneaking suspicion there was a lot of experience that went into finding that coin. Finding the window of opportunity, finding the old tree roots, etc. Nicely done |) |)
