Artillery Button

November 16[SUP]th[/SUP] – Headed back to the late 19[SUP]th[/SUP] century farm house I was at two weeks ago. My hunting partner was unable to go (southern zone hunting season opened on Saturday) so my daughter asked if she could go. The corn field was cut and turned over. I was pretty sure that there was a house at the far end of the field, at lease according to the 1865 beers map. After a couple of hours and only a two small buttons I decided to move to the front yard of the house where I did pretty well last week. I knew my time would be short as the kid was cold and hungry. First find was a button in a plug that was dug on our first visit. Either my cousin or I missed that one. Remember to double check your holes. Next target was showing two signals on the CTX. Found a long thin rusty nail and my first pre-civil war Artillery button in the hole. Ended the day with another button, a no date Draped Bust LC and a few more wheaties. It was a great day, although cold, to spend with my daughter enjoying this great hobby!

I found the Artillery button in my Tice book but could not match the back mark. I believe it is a late 1820, early 1830’s militia button. Back mark is Treble Gilt.

:wow: great button Brian , I'm pretty sure that button was used from 1808-1821 and could very well have been used during the war of 1812 . super find !

Somebody will ID that button, great find. Wouldn't that be funny if this was the button left in the plug. :thumbsup02: on that artillery button.

Sweet button, according to Albert's book should be between 1808-1811, the back mark Treble Gilt matches up with his AY 46 B on page 54. Says Treble Gilt with crown above...does that match up to yours?

Very nice button for sure :thumbsup02: (definitely war of 1812 era) I found one just like it soon after I bought my V3i

Thanks for all the comments!! I've got one more planned trip to that yard this Sunday, hoping the weather stays nice.
