Barber And Mercury Dimes

Today I met up with John (midas) to detect at the Connecticut park I had been to yesterday. John had to leave after a short while but I stayed for a few more hours. I ended up with eight silver coins by the time I had to leave, five mercury dimes dated 1918, 1935, 1939, 1942, and 1944-S, and three Barber dimes, dated 1900, 1910, and 1916-S.

I also dug up sixteen wheat cents, with some oldies in the mix.

I haven't cleaned this large disk so I don't yet know what it is. The tiny turtle almost went into the trash pouch. It's tiny, so I'm glad I took a closer look.

HH!

Nice 1910 Barber, great shape. That silver looking disk is unusual  Can't even guess at it. Maybe when it's cleaned it may be easier to ID. Hope it's silver! Great day out for you!!

The 1910 is a real beauty. I looked at it closely with my magnifier after digging it up and the detail is great, with full liberty on the band.

The large disk is aluminum. It gave me a bit of a rush when I first saw it on edge in the soil I had just dug up since it had been at about seven to eight inches and under some troublesome roots. It's just a bit larger than a half. I cleaned it up a bit this morning. The lettering (what I can make out) reads: 37th Annl Intl Fire Ch The image appears to be that of an old style fireman's hat.

Sweet! Congrats on another nice hunt! Man, you sure do have a lot of old coins in Mass! Makes me wish I still lived in Manchester NH then I could just skip on over the border, grab some silver and be back by nightfall!   Of course there's those cold winters and hot muggy summers to deal with! But there no place in the world that I'd rather be in the fall!

Man !!Eight silvers in one day ?? :shocked04:
