Best hunt ever @ house built in 1790

Yesterday I read an article in 1990 Eastern & Western Treasures (thanks pulltabsteve!) titled 'Are you really ready for the next hunt? It focused on the mental aspect of the hunt, not the phsyical. It suggested meditating before the hunt and picturing in your mind the kind of things you want to dig. I sat out on my patio overlooking our creek with a cup of coffee yesterday morning, did just that and then went hunting all day. Maybe it's coincedence, but it was the most productive day I've ever had! I found some really neat relics too, that I'll share those in the relic section.

My very first IH----> 1864!!! Copper right? Since it's so green :huh: All the bronze ones I've seen have never been green...

Nice big copper :happydance01: Great looking large cent. That one counts!! It's in great shape too. Congrats and I beleive that is your oldest coin?? As for the Indian, if it's regular thickness (thin) then it's bronze if it's double thick, then it's copper nickel. There is also an L variety on that coin and also a over date 1864/1864. Great hunt and I firmly believe the quicker you can relax and focus, the better your hunt will be. I always think of what I am going to find before a hunt, but I usually end up with what ever I can get rofl But at least I always try :cheesysmile:

Yes it's my oldest coin to date- very astute of you George I checked the IH and it's reg thickness, no 1864 over 1864. Darn... how do you tell if it's L variety?

It's very hard to see this little L that the designer Longacre decided he was gonna put on the die. lol It pays to be the die maker The Redbook shows where it is, but there is an easier way. The bust of the Indian can be pointy or rounded (right above the 1 in the date). Pointed is the L variety. Blunted is the regular variety. I hope you can see the pointed bust on my coin. This is the overdate, so check yours carefully, since you can barely make out the doubled 1 and 4. Much easier to see in person.

Awesome Tana!! That is a beautiful LC! I totally believe in being in the right mindset for hunting. I have told my hunting buddy several times about a vision of things that I believe I will find and have done it on many occasions... don't know what it means, perhaps I need to think about gold coins more!!lol And it works in other ways too... If I go to a site and don't feel good about the hunt, odds are I tend not to find much. Positive attitude always wins and it makes you feel better too.. Keep up the good work girl!!!
