got out with Frankie boy today.we both had the day off and thought we would take advantage of the warm day.
2 IH's (my 49th on the year) 1882 & 1898,a small silvered flat button and a monogrammed silver spoon that unfortunately has the bowl portion all mangled.i tried to unfold it slowly with plyers but where the folds are it started cracking from stress so, i stopped.it's not hallmarked but no doubt silver.the monogramed lettering style seems colonial era to me.
what's neat is the name of the home owner was M.Rose so,maybe this was their infants spoon

Wow, what the heck happened to that spoon lol That is mangled, looks like moon craters on it. Nice find though thumbsup01 It does look old. I have to look up the old english style of writing. Looks like the kind that old manuscripts have when you start a sentence. The first letter is always odd looking. Great day, I'm jealous I was stuck in house :envious: Gotta take them days before the snow hits.

i tried heating it up and it still was cracking.wonder if it's worth bringing it to a silversmith and having a new bowl put on  :thinkingabout:

nice early looking spoon Dave thumbsup01 i'm very suprised theres no makers mark though . but a great find still.

could it be revere?

look at the letters on the spoon handle, same style engraving as mine
lol You wish :shocked04: I would think it would be stamped if it were. If it still was Revere Jr and unmarked, it would be a hard sell to prove it just by the style of the lettering. But that link does give you the date of the initials, just like you thought it was. Just around colonial times, which is a :happydance01: :happydance01:. I wouldn't replace the bowl at a silversmith's shop. If anything, I would ask him to save the bowl. Some of these guys can work miracles with silver. If you get a chance, try a little mini hammer on it and see if you can tap it back into shape. Heating it would require just the right temperature to soften it without over or under heating it. You could heat and tap it and see what happens. But you did a great job on it already, considering what it looked like. :clapping:

thanks man! in your opinion...is it worth looking into a silversmith though?

rofl Yeah what the heck happened?? It looks like it's been chewed on. That really is a good job you did- makes me want to see it smooth lol I wonder how much it'd cost to get a bowl ...

I wouldn't look into a silversmith unless it was a rare one, or a sentimental find (like from your ancestors land). I would just tap it for a bit and if it didn't look any better, I would leave it as is. It would probably be a little bit of moola for a silversmith to fix for you.

yeah your most likely right on the $$ part.oh well.a tappin i will go :hammer:

I joked earlier about looking like it had been chewed on- I bet those are (molar) teeth marks. Was used during something painful/stitches/childbirth? Like the old saying, 'bite the bullet', someone was biting the spoon instead.
