Door Knocking with Ill Digger / Digger Al Dug Large Cent # 2 / Awesome Day

Digger Don

New member
We met up with Ill Digger this morning to do a little hunting. We started at an old park and hit it for about an hour and a half.
None of us did too well there, so on to plan B, Door knocking. We got a yes at the first house we tried. Tim ( Ill Digger ) did quite well at this house. I'll let him tell his story.

Once again, Alec struck first with a 1941 Washington and a 1957 Rosie 3 inches apart. I followed about 15 minutes later with a 1964 Rosie. A while later, Al dug a 1901 Indian. Tim had to leave for a while to attend his sons baseball game. While he was gone, Alec and I hit a house from the 1850s. Once again, Alec struck first with a 1917 merc. About 20 minutes later, I dug a 1941 Washington. Alec Finished up with another of those Safety Patrol Badges.

When Tim got back, we ( when I say we, I mean Alec ) decided to hit an old farm house outside of town. Alec found one on Historic map works that was on the 1870 map. When we got there, the home owners were very nice and said yes.
Once again, Alec struck first with an 1835 Large Cent. He followed that with an 1867 Indian Head. Tim got a few keepers as well. I managed a few wheats. When we finished, we sat on the porch for about 45 minutes talking to the home owners about our hobby and the history of the area. Very Nice People!

We had a great time hunting with Tim. Looking forward to the next time.

You gents are having some great hunts! Congrats on the big copper Al! I remember those crossing guard awards from elementary school....a long time ago...:)

You guys are on a hot streak! So many nice keepers. Congrats on the awesome 1835 Large Cent, Alec! I would love to see a closeup photo of the 1867 Indian Head as well. Not a common date!

It is unreal how many silver quarters you find! SWEET! :thumbsup02:

:congrats:

Good times and good finds boys!! :thumbsup02:
It was defiantly Alec's day! First to hit silver, and kept on talking about hitting a farm house so he could find a large cent. And what does he do when we get to a farm house? Walks right to a LC! :shocked04: It was almost like he already knew he was going to find one and right were one was! CRAZY!
I don't know Don, maybe we should've slept in the car for a hour before swinging too! :hystericallaugh:
I'm happy for him! he's a good kid. Can you imagine the collection he'll have when he gets a little older... like us.
It was a good time huntin' with you guys again!
Congrats on all your finds guys!

I never even seen/ knew he dug that badge. Another great find! :thumbsup01:

Thanks Tim. He dug the badge while you were gone. He didn't think it was a big deal because it's the 3rd one we've found.
It almost did seem scripted, he talked about doing a farm house from the moment he woke up. He really felt like he was going to find something really old. I think I'm going to start listening to him. LOL
I've been giving the Large cent a peroxide bath, it's starting to look pretty good. I'll post pics later.
Alec did great, but it was a good day for all!!!

We uploaded the video to our you tube channel, check it out

Now that's a full complete hunt. :thumbsup02:

Congrats on your LC and that "67" IH is fantastic looking. Very impressive yearly totals so far.

Love the early Indian Don. In fantastic shape I must say. Looks like it must have been nearly new when dropped.
