Cellar hole freak
Went to an old cellar hole with center fireplace yesterday with Foundation Hunter, found this sweet 1821 LC about 8 inches down, Love it when they clean up like this.

Only two varieties of 1821 and on those the date numbers are far apart, the 6th star points directly to the crown of LIBERTY which is not the case of the coin posted and it does attribute as a 1831 Newcomb 3 variety, Rarity 1. A shame it is not a 1821, since that is a tough year to find.

Again, many times a coin can be dated even if it has not readable date, by other attributes and the other attributes confirm it is not any variety of 1821 and than looking at the date, it is a 3 not a 2. Corrosion plays tricks! With that said, I put together photos of both 1821 varieties, your coin and what I said it is a 1831 Newcomb 3 variety. Just look at the size of the numbers of both 1821's and then your coin, than look at the spacing between numbers and your coin, then compare with the 1831.

great comparison pictures Don , you can really see the spacing of the numbers in the date , the 1831 are noticeably closer together .

Thanks for input everybody, but the third # looks nothing like a 3, i used different powered loops, and looks nothing like a 3
