I was out in the field where I found my 1833 dime where we thought it was hunted out. I was doing some testing on my DFX and At pro setting :usaflag:s and switching detectors :hairpulling: not find much to prove anything except they will all find JUNK :ticked: So thought I will just stop wasting time and just hunt I walked about 50ft. and got a tone that was too good to be true for as much as we hunted this place so again I dug it (no video and even had my camera) and out came my oldest coin yet at only about 3in. how do they get missed? that dime was the same way :dontknow:. I also think it is a med. letter 1830 :shocked04: but not sure <: <:

great looking copper Spike  :loveit: , at 3 inches i hope you heard that thing ring out loud and clear on both machines, with all the snow melt i bet the ground conditions are about perfect ,huh .

Wow that is an Awesome large :clapping:
That's my oldest coin as well,it's amazing how targets get missed :dontknow:

Congrats Spike |) |) According to the Redbook it does appear to be the Medium letters variety. Breen's encyclopedia calls it the small letters variety lol Either way it's the same variety and it's the better of the two. Breen's is #1846 (also Newcomb 6) Also states : Always unevenly struck (usually weak on hair and parts of leaves) usually in low grades, unobtainable UNC. A nice, rarer variety. We won't dwell on the part about missing it all those other hunts lol

Woooo Hooooo!!! happydance02 :happydance01: :clapping: I know you were doing a dance to that one! lol

Today was the first chance I tried yours and 2 others seemed to be thumbsup01 but need to tweak it a bit filters at 6 may not be necessary here :dontknow: Thanks

|) That is a beautiful coin Spike! :happydance01: It is a major oldie in fantastic shape. <:

Like you said, sometimes you just have to get out there and hunt.
Glad to hear you scored BIG.

Howdy Spike!
Great find amigo! Just two questions I have; which machine actually hit on it, and
what state are you in? I am asking out of curiosity because seems like folks who
find older coins tend to be out east, while folks finding gold tend to be in the west
or beach hunters along the coasts.

Anyhow, terrific find pard! Nice going!

Blessings,
M-Taliesin
