Scratch one off the list, I finally found a TWO-CENT PIECE!

Yep, Tony Two-Cent finally found his namesake! Now my forum ID isn't just an ironic name any more! lol

Yesterday morning I went back to the park where I found the 1917 SLQ a few weeks ago. My hunt was cut short by thunderstorms, I had to quit after only 1 1/2 hours. In that time I was able to find 1 3/4 Indian Head Cents and an extremely worn nickel that I think is a V Nickel.

Today I went back to the park I've been calling Barber Park after all of the Barber Dimes I've found there recently. Well, the silver was hiding from me this weekend, but I still had a very fun hunt. Today I ended up with 4 Indian Heads, 11 Wheat Cents, 3 Buffalo Nickels, and my first ever TWO-CENT PIECE!

The two-cent piece was pretty deep, about 8-9 and produced a perfect 12-40 signal on my E-Trac. When the coin came out of the hole I noticed right away that it was bigger than a nickel and I wasn't sure what it was. One swipe of my finger revealed the 2 on one side and I knew instantly that it was a two-cent piece! It came out of the ground looking pretty nice too! It has some wear, but no corrosion or other unsightly defects. The side with the date is definitely the good side. (Which means it was facing down?) I know you guys out east find them pretty often, but they don't seem to be too common here in Illinois. I am really pumped!

Here are my finds for the weekend:

And the Buffalo Nickels:

I also found this medallion today. It is about the same size as a nickel and has what appears to be a steam ship on the front. The back is totally smooth.

That's it! Thanks for looking and happy hunting! :beerbuddy:

I know that feeling. When I found my first 2 center, earlier this year, I thought it was going to be some kinda token. :dontknow:
Nice surprise huh!?! lol
Congrats again my friend! :beerbuddy:

sweet digs! that two center has a fantastic patina to it (as do the indian heads). most i've dug are warty and corroded. Congrats!

Congrats on the 2 CENT! In fact, congrats on your whole series of finds. They are impressive! The park is being very good to you.

That's a beauty Tony! Congratulation on your first Two-Center. That one did come out of the ground in great shape. :wow:

AWESOME Tony! That park is a sweet place. The 2 cent sure has a beautiful patina. I was going to say something about the 1877 IH having the date chopped off, but someone beat me to it! That nickel sure is smooth. Try soaking it in worchester sauce and that might reveal a bit of detail. Best wishes and HH! Dave.

Awsome hunts tony! You have some great parks out there seems like they are virgin.
We may have older finds here in new England but I am jealous of your soil. Seems that most hot coins come out nice.
