Snagged an LC

Lodge Scent

Hit a nearby cellar hole today and managed to rescue an 1847 Braided Hair from the iron belt surrounding the hole. The LC was very shallow... 2 to 3 inches tops. I didn't get much of a signal but it was definitely a diggable tone. It sounded small and deep...certainly not what you would expect for a copper that shallow. But it was masked by a piece of iron that must have been partially covering the copper.

Still a bit of snow in the woods. Not bad at the site though.

Managed a couple of buttons, ox shoe, ornate brass thingy, lead etc. One of the buttons says " Octagon Soap". That piece of iron was in the hole with the copper.

Came upon a wood frog that was probably as happy as me that the snow is finally melting.

No ticks yet. Hopefully the tough winter did a job on them.

You must be getting very acquainted with your Deus :) Good looking copper.....but I have to tell you, I hit some woods on the way home yesterday and HAD A TICK ON ME!! You gotta love the great state of New England!

Very nice looking Large Cent! It doesn't look like it has any circulation wear at all. It's a beauty! :thumbsup02:

I really like that Octagon Soap button too. Very unusual.

:congrats:

nice recovery Jeff , the braided hair looks to be in pretty nice shape how about a better look (its been months since i seen one up close:girlcry:). the frog was probably just thawed out getting some sun ..

Hey Jeff where was the orientation of the iron in relation with the copper (laying just partially over the copper , right on top of the copper , just to the side , ect)?

Thanks folks. That LC does have a lot of detail but it is pretty porous. But I'll take it!

You must be getting very acquainted with your Deus :) !

I am definitely warming up to the Deus Drew. Our first few dates were a bit awkward but it's obvious she is a keeper. Time to get serious about the relationship. ;)

Dan, I don't know. I wasn't expecting it to be so shallow so when I popped the plug with my shovel everything went flying and fell out of context.

Very nice coin and looks like minimal wear...to the extent of something in the ground for 150+ years. Great to see you're finally able to start getting out again, though tonight I've got snow falling up here in VT. It'll be gone soon though.
