Suddenly the woods are where it's at

I was fortunate to be able to get out this evening for an hour or two before sunset. I was planning on hitting a local school, but the wooded area I had hunted earlier in the week was calling to me, so I headed there instead. Once again I was glad I gave it a go. Targets were few but almost all of the good ones were nice keepers. I dug 5 coins total - 2 modern pennies, a 1927 wheat, a Buffalo nickel, and an 1865 two cent piece in very nice shape. I also got some nifty relics including a older looking suspender buckle, a large bullet, and a lead circle with two holes and VII on it. Any ideas on the last item would be appreciated. I have to say with finds like this I could get used to hunting in the woods pretty fast. The mosquitoes were horrendous already, but that's not a bad trade off for the relative quiet and lack of people. I'm hoping there is some nice silver somewhere at this spot. I always struggle a bit when I find a promising new hunting spot - do I save it for future hunts, or pound the heck out of it right away?

Happy hunting!

That is one very nice looking 2 center. If you have the spot, then pound it now. I know what you mean about the bugs, I don't think this is going to be a good year bug wise. Congrats on the wheat and the buff. I have no idea what the lead item is, but someone will.

A very sweet looking 2 cent piece. :perfect10: Congrats on a great hunt and great finds. thumbsup01 I know what you mean about the mosquitoes. :omg: are they bad! I hope we get another freeze just to kill some of the bugs!

That is a really nice looking coin. Congrats and in my opinion, you should save some of that area for your dad to hunt when he visits in a few weeks

Continued good hunting.

Thanks for the comments all... this is only my thrid two center and by far and away it's in nicer shape that the first two.

That's a tall order! You'd better get up here fast! lol

Any takers on the round lead item with VII on it?

1) Great finds :clapping:
2) That 2 center is in amazing shape :shocked04:
3) I think the questionable item is a button.....at least that is my guess...I'm probably wrong...but given the size/shape and the 2 holes :thinkingabout: :dontknow:...just my 2 center

:shocked04: That's a beautiful 2 Cent piece right there. :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:
Three keepers out of the five coins. :clapping: Very nice ratio.

I'd give those woods another whirl.
