Three silvers today including an 1857 Seated Liberty Dime!

I just couldn't stand it any more! The metal detecting withdrawals became unbearable so I decided to go coinshooting this morning no matter how hot and dry it is!

I got up early and was at the site by 6:20 a.m. I went back to the same park where I found the Indian Heads from the 1870s a few weeks ago. A large portion of this park is just scrub grass along the creek bottom. We are having a pretty bad drought here, so most of the grass is totally dead.

My first good find of the day was a 1941-D Washington Quarter. Only my third silver Washington of the year. They just don't turn up very often for me. After that I found an 1880 Indian Head. This was my fifth Indian Head from this park, the newest being dated 1881. Not long after the Indian Head I found a thin 1918 Mercury Dime. It's too worn to tell if it has a mint mark or not.

And then just a short distance away from the Merc I got a 12-42 signal on my E-Trac that sounded like a wheat cent. It was about 6 deep. After I got the plug opened up and some dirt scooped out of the hole I could see a thin silver dime. At first I thought it might be a Barber Dime but when I got the dirt washed off I could tell it was a Seated! By then it was time to take a break, so I took the dime back to my car and washed it off with some water. When I put my glasses on I could see the date was 1857, currently my oldest US silver coin! :happydance01:

After that I didn't find much except for a couple of wheat cents. By 11:00 a.m. it was already 90 degrees so I called it a day. I can't wait to hunt this park in the fall when the ground is not so dry!

What a fun day!

Here are my finds for today:

Some pics of the Seated Liberty Dime: (I don't think it has a mint mark.) Very worn, but I still love it!

What a great day Tony !!! I sure wish I could have a day like that .Sometimes it really pays off when one pushes themself to go out even though conditions are not good .Bravo !!!

Withdrawals are a hard thing to overcome. Glad you are the weak type of individual who had to sucumb to the urge. :white:usaflag:: What a great hunt you had. Three silvers and one of them is seated, another the elusive wash quarter and the well loved merc. :congrats: on getting out and lets all pray for some rain.

Thanks, everyone!

Just to clarify, I found an 1808 One Real several years ago that is still my oldest coin and my oldest silver, but this 1857 Dime is my oldest silver US coin.

Now all we need is a long, slow, drenching rain so I can give this park a thorough hunting!

Fantastic hunt Tony. Always love the variety of coins you find. :smitten:

I know the itch you are talking about. After a while it builds until it just has to be scratched.

Congrats on the keepers... especially the Seated. :beerbuddy:
