UPDATED AMAZING Silver Cross and Relics

Got out for an unexpected hunt this evening, headed straight for a spot which has given up good silver including my first seated dime a few weeks ago. I was hoping for a silver coin or two (or ten) but it was not to be. Still, the hunt was saved by a very nice sterling cross that I found. It caught me off guard for sure as it rang up exactly like a very rotten zinc or a bottle cap. I also found a few relic like items, including and old buckle, an button which reads Triple Orange London on the back or at least something close to that, a rotten old piece of leather with two large copper rivets in it, and an odd large ring of lead. I also wound up with 28 coins worth $2.08 including a 52 nickel and a 44 wheat. I figure that if I'm still finding this many targets then silver must also still be there.

It was nice to get out, as always.

Not sure if I really should have posted this in Relic Hunting but I didn't get too many coins so what the heck...
Happy Hunting!

Re: Silver Cross and Relics

Great finds Z.... thumbsup01 that is an old cross. That find would be better for me than a silver coin. I love it.

I can't read the writing on the button but it looks very old. Did you google it?

Thanks! I did try to google Triple Orange London and variants but did not get anything.

It did not occur to me either that the cross might be old but I found this:

which makes me a little sad that Jesus might have been on there at some point?

Re: Silver Cross and Relics

Very nice ... that cross is gorgeous!
I like the dolphins as well, and the buckle is pretty cool.
Nice job, z. The silver coins will come... meanwhile, things like that cross are just as good!

Re: Silver Cross and Relics

The cross is old Z, because of the designation 'sterling' instead of '.925.

I don't know how old... when did that change? Early 1900's?

It's a beautiful find. Also I like the buckle, and the dolphins, now that Donna pointed them out ;)

Re: Silver Cross and Relics

Yeah I would have to agree with the ladies that the cross is better than most silver coins!

thumbsup01 Nice assortment of finds z118. I also love the cross, what's the thingy at the top right? does the watch still keep on ticking? and for sure there must be silver there.

Re: Silver Cross and Relics

Beautiful Cross Z..!! I love those Religious pendants.. I've always wondered when Sterling as a stamped ended.. Good finds man!

Re: Silver Cross and Relics

That really is a nice one Z. A definite keeper and addition to the collection.

Re: Silver Cross and Relics

Thanks for the comments all... at this point I am completed fixated on this find because I suspect that Jesus was on there and might be in the hole still! If you look at the pic in the link I posted the item shown looks identical except for Jesus. Also, the one I found shows a bit of something at the center that looks as though it might have been where he was attached. And I am kicking myself right now because I did not rescan the hole after I found this! I am worried that Jesus came off in the ground and I left him there in the dirt. Ugh! I'm am going to try to slip out at lunch and see if I can find the plug. It's a huge field though so even though I know about where it was it still won't be easy. Wish me luck!

I think it changed in the 1960's or 1970's. I have found and verified jewelry made in the 1950's that still had the STER or STERLING stamp.

UPDATED AMAZING WOW!!!

I got back out there and through some miracle found Jesus. I can hardly believe this. I am very happy! WOW!!! Can you believe it? I will clean him up better at home and have a jeweler reattach him.

Have you ever seen a silver piece made out of two pieces like this?

WOW!!!

ALWAYS RESCAN THE HOLE!!!

WOW!

:) :)
