yesterdays hunt with "the boys"

here are only a few pictures of my finds from yesterdays hunt .

anyone know what these large brass items are

they look like they go together like this , i'm wondering if they are some type of axle race for an old wagon or more modern. I have found similar pieces of ones but smaller at other sites.

I found two coppers(and 1834 large cent and King George II copper) both were pretty rough.almost 30 buttons total and some other trinkets .
between Dave (HEAVYMETALNUT) and I we recovered 5 artillery buttons ( yes Dave the small convex is an eagle with an A on its chest type ) from two small stone walled pens . the 4 i found all are different types and the most i've ever recovered in one hunt .cleaning them has been challenging and unfortunately i only have pictures of one that is done for me . this one i'm showing has been a type I've wanted to find for quite some time now , its one of the more rarer convex type 1st Regimental Light Artillery button with the "wedge shank" and since these were used from 1808 to 1821 it classifies as a War of 1812 button . Its stamped kind of lightly but has a boarder with15-six pointed stars and intertwined foliated script LA letters with the number 1 in oval below. i took a few shots of it in different lighting and angles so you can see it. unfortunately I could not find this type of button on the internet to show and compare it to .

hopefully the other buttons will clean up as well as this one and Ill show them when i get them done .

Dave and Todd , thanks again for the invite this button alone made it worth the long drive , grueling hikes and fighting off the biting insects.

That button is just AWESOME!!! For some reason I just love old buttons... Looks like you guys had a fun day! :congrats:

Great bunch of finds you got there Del :thumbsup02: that looks like some sort of rod bearing there to me, very nice old button too.

awesome! was happy for you.good to see the smiles and look of shock on your face each time I told ya "yep it's another script!"
hope the others clean up good too.i think your best shape one is gonna be the flat stars in center with small "LA"

Isaac , it was pretty funny as I purposely left my glasses (only need them to read or look at small items) in the truck and I didn't even know what the buttons were until Dave told me . Thanks

Dave I thought for sure you were just busting my stones about the buttons seeing as I was at blind as a bat to see any detail:lol: I never would of left that area if i had known they were military types.

Any time Dan, we don't do it often enough. How do you like being a third wheel now?

Dan, I am pretty sure your button is the same as mine that I dug a few months ago 2014-04-13 008 (800x730).jpg

Todd your button has less wear in the middle than mine and great color to it , the Alberts book list these with a rarity scale of 35 . the same as Dave's 1-piece connecticut. did you find that one in the same area we were in ??

Awesome reports gents. That is one cool looking site.

Hope you figure out what those are Dan. They do have a strong resemblance to engine bearings. Maybe an axle shaft lubed with 90W Goose Grease?

Awesome finds Dan. I wish I could see them (for some reason I can't open the pictures on my iPad & I don't have access to my laptop right now.) Congrats on checking another one off your bucket list. I hope to see some these finds at the next YTC meeting. :thumbsup01:
