Meager finds from 1850 house hunt

I've been working on getting permission to hunt an 1850 house for a little while now. Finally got the go ahead & hit it today. No coins, other than modern Lincoln's and Jefferson nickels. Dug a bunch of trash & a few keepers (keepers for me anyways). There seemed to be a lot of fill at this house, especially in the back of the house. Fun to get out either way.

The top to the oil lamp was really mangled. Surprisingly, I was able to straighten it out somewhat, without breaking it.

Anyone have any guesses on the top item in the second picture? Maybe the top to a teapot?

These places usually have fill... but they never fill everywhere, I bet there are edges of places where you'll really clean house. Don't give up! Those are some high targets too.

Good saves Kevin. I agree with digger don on the beer stein:interesting: Nice to see your busting out the photography skills now also. Keep swinging:detecting:

Nice finds. It looks like it could be the top of a beer stein

That would make sense Don. The piece that broke off goes on the edge & there is a hinge mechanism on the underside portion (you can see it on the left edge in the pic on the right). Thanks for the input, you may have nailed it. :thumbsup01:

congrats on the finds , keep at it your bound to get the old coins ,
I agree Kevin it looks to be the top to an old pewter or brass serving or drinking flagon.

Keep at it I bet some dandy find will turn up. Is that silver colored plate a tag from a piece of furniture?

Yes, definitely a furniture tag. The flash made it look silver colored in the pic, but it is actually bronze, I believe.

I thought I had posted a reply a while ago, but I guess not. Still, you didn't miss anything while you were swinging. There is a possibility of more finds and the reason not finding yet is not due to the fill. The iron could be masking it. I still have yet to find anything before 1900. Wait... any coin before 1900. Unbelieveable how others are popping them out left and right. Just the luck where you put the coil.
