1812 half reale and some buttons

Went over to a field that I have been hunting and managed some keepers. Lots of junk (nails), on ox shoe, and the following buttons. The back mark on the little one says Double Gilt.

The last good find was unexpected to say the least. Had a good VDI of 80-81, dug the plug and saw the silver rim. I was thinking maybe another seated to add to the collection. The coin was in a clump so I just picked it up and dropped it to break it apart. Not wearing my glasses I could still tell it was a 1/2 reale but couldn't read the date.

This is my 3rd half reale and the only one in the 1800's.

It was a good day to detect. HH everyone.

Awesome find Al. :congrats: Was that at the same farm you brought me to at the end of last year where you got the DB 1/2 cent?

Kevin, this came from a field that I had taken Dan to. I'm still waiting for that 1st piece of silver to come out of the field your referencing.

Yeah, too bad it has a little bend to it and a small cut on the reverse.

I did notice the slight bend. Well, if it was from a field still plowed you got the answer why. I don't think the lawn mower was the culprit. lol. Same with the large button. Sweet silver. Altho Dan did mention how much detail was on it still, it seems like the bust and writing on the front are barely worn, for some reason the rim looks worn only on the front.

That 1812 Half Real is a terrific find, Al! For some reason we don't see much Spanish silver from the 1800s posted on the forum. It's actually in really good shape, especially for a field find.

:congrats:
