Looks like a nice place you have here--I think I may enjoy it.
I'm back to swinging after about a 15 year hiatus from the hobby. The advancement in technologies always amazes me especially when it's electronic. When my old Spectrum bit the dust I moved to an e-trac and have been adjusting happily , mostly in parks of the big city here. I must say , the nicest advancement is the use of a good pinpointer.

Like everyone I love to find to find silver but these public areas are very well picked. There's lots of clad but most of the Ag comes in the form of rings. Every yard seems to yield some but the real art to that story is getting permission.

hello Nicklehead and welcome to American Detectorist :waving: .the Land of Enchantment has some beautiful country what part of NM are you in?? you'll find quite a few e-trac users here , glad you found us here.

Dan

Welcome, Nickelhead! Glad you found us.

Your story sounds very similar to mine. I hunted in the 1980s and 1990s with a basic but reliable Fisher 1260-X. I then took an extended hiatus from the hobby from 1999-2010. In early 2011 I decided that I really missed metal detecting and bought a new E-Trac. You certainly are correct about the advances in technology! Like you, I mostly hunt in public parks.

Best of luck with your hunting and be sure to share your finds with us!

Thanks for the warm welcome!
You're right in that we do have some beautiful and unique areas out here but I suppose every state can claim the same --cept New Jersey of course :)
So far this place has been a wealth of info and wish I'd stumbled upon it sooner.
I particularly enjoy the mugshot thread--I'll have to work up to that.

Welcome to the forum from SE Wisconsin. You will grow to love that Etrac, if there is silver in the ground it will sing to you. GL and HH

Hi Nicklehead, I too have been away for a while. The ETrac is a wonderful machine, and I'm sure that it will give you many treasures. HH

Welcome to our group nicklehead. It is great to have you here with us. :clapping:

Glad to see you are getting back into it. 15 years is a long time. Looking forward to your triumphant return. :->

Hey Nicklehead :groovy:
Welcome to the forum from the cornfields of Illinois!
I can't wait to see some of your new treasures! :->

Welcome aboard Nicklehead! By the way, where do you reside here in NM? I too am from NM. Being detecting since 1974.

TC-NM , I'm out by the Az. border mostly but occasionally in Albq.
Do any of those parks in the Duke City harbor any silver any more?

Yea, some of the older parks in the downtown area. Are you located near Gallup or Grants?

How about hunting at the old Fort Wingate area?

TC-NM

Pie Town area but I travel a bit and carry the e-trac everywhere these days.
The original Wingate area East of Grants is nothing and the soil decomposes metal so fast there's nothing but shards around. I suspect the Predator drones are the biggest hindrance at the other fort sites if you got close to them with a detector.

Back in the day , I detected the old Warm Springs Apache Res. at the end of Nogal Canyon and found some interesting items. Lots of 45/70 casings(makes you wonder) and found an oak leaf which most likely came off an officers uniform. You can get to it by driving up Nogal creek or go south from Dusty.

:welcome2:from the Great Lakes State of Michigan.

Waiting to see pictures of those rings.

I guess I've been here long enough to welcome another newbie to this Forum. Tonytwocent turned me on to it, and I'm glad he dd. Like you, and many others, I too, was away for many years. The main thing I love about the new technology is that great Garrett Pro Pointer. If you don't have one,.....get one! It makes hunting a whole lot simpler and more fun.

Regards,

Keith
