One room school house site gives up a couple goodies

I hunted the site of a one room school house on Monday and came up with a few keepers. The school was torn down in the late 1940's and is now now a farm field. I found the site on a map from 1897 and I suspect it was built in the 1880's. The dime almost gave me a heart attack when I first saw the date of 1916 and I could see a mint mark but I could not read it until I went to the car to get my magnifier. I also found a 1888 Indian and 3 wheats. There were a few surface finds also, a nice old ceramic marble and a few none metalic buttons. The coolest find was a token that is dated 1863 and it is for a meat market. You can see the token and the marble on the video.

Congrats on finding some great finds and spot. Those are the places that haven't been detected before because they aren't there and have to do research to find them.

That '16 S would have killed me right on the spot :shocked04: Nice hunt, great location and some good keepers. I would hunt right up until the seeds were going in lol

gee i just remembered where the oldest school house is in a town i lived in, i may go there this weekend.

Great finds FF... especially locating the site.
Looks like the coin dates fall right in to when the school was in use.
From the picture, the Merc looks to have some exceptional detail. Is this correct?
The token is a great find. Do you think it will clean up a little better?
Congrats.

Sweet hunt and very nice finds, great video! How did the token clean up? Those old Civil War era store tokens are real cool. Good luck on future hunts until the farmer plants.
